Daily Wisdom Books
365-day secular reading books. One tradition per volume, one page a day: a passage, an insight, one small practice, and a line to carry.
The 30-Day Shift
Practical psychology programs. One problem, thirty days, a morning and an evening session. Behavioral science rather than a wisdom tradition.
Mitra Goris writes secular daily-reading books that distill the world's wisdom traditions into one page a day.
Mitra Goris is the author of Daily Wisdom Books, a series of 365-day secular reading books covering Buddhism, Taoism, Stoicism and the Bhagavad Gita, and of The 30-Day Shift, a series of practical psychology programs. Four Daily Wisdom volumes and two 30-Day Shift titles are published as of July 2026.
Why secular?
Because the useful part of every one of these traditions survives translation out of its religion, and most people who could use it will never walk into a temple to get it.
The Stoics were writing about anger management and mortality. The Tao Te Ching is about the cost of unnecessary force. The Dhammapada is about attention and attachment. The Bhagavad Gita opens with a panic attack. These are psychological documents that happen to be two thousand years old, and reading them does not require you to believe anything.
Why only public-domain sources?
Because a book that quotes a source the reader cannot go and read for free is a closed loop.
Every passage in every Daily Wisdom book comes from a translation in the public domain, and every passage names its translator. That rules out some famous modern versions, and in a few cases it means quoting a nineteenth-century scholar rather than a more elegant twentieth-century poet. The trade is worth it: the reader can always check the source, and the reading lists on this site link straight to the free full texts.
What is coming next
PLACEHOLDER. Owner-approved titles only, in prose, with no covers and no buttons. The upcoming list in the data file is working titles, several are not final, and some are still being checked for exact-name clashes on Amazon. Do not publish any of them here until each one is confirmed. Delete this paragraph and write the approved ones in its place.

Every source, and who translated it
Every passage quoted in a Daily Wisdom book comes from a translation in the public domain and names its translator on the page. That rules out some famous modern versions. The trade is that you can go and read every one of these in full, for nothing.
